As a Distribution Verification & Data Collection Inspector:
Your responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections of completed electrical distribution projects to verify compliance with as-built designs, technical standards, and safety regulations;
- Inspect installations such as primary/secondary circuit framing, transformers, poles, directional drilling, road bores, conduit installations, and unique locations (e.g., islands, swamps, waterways, high groundwater areas);
- Validate that all construction work aligns with Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Ontario Regulation 22/04, and Hydro One’s technical specifications;
- Ensure that site remediation (e.g., removal of old equipment, repair of site damage) is completed;
- Collect and validate GPS coordinates of underground conduits before trench backfilling;
- Capture and document non-compliance issues, including photographs, descriptions, and technical references;
- Complete Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs) and submit findings within the client’s required timeframe;
- Use Hydro One’s electronic systems to manage work packages and submit reports (JUMP, Blackberry Workspace, Fieldglass);
- Ensure all field activities follow health, safety, and environmental regulations;
- Immediately report any imminent hazards to the Contract Operations Manager;
- Adhere to the Building Broadband Faster Act (BBFA) for joint-use work execution;
- Maintain records of daily field logs and inspections;
- Acknowledge and confirm work requests within one business day of assignment;
- Provide regular updates on inspection progress and submit reports within five business days;
- Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and client representatives to ensure efficient verification and data collection.
Your profile
- Electrical, Civil, or Utility Engineering background (diploma or degree preferred);
- 3+ years of experience in electrical distribution system inspection, construction verification, or utility work;
- Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Ontario Regulation 22/04, and Hydro One technical standard;
- Knowledgeable in using GIS software, digital measuring devices, and field data collection tools;
- Ability to read and interpret electrical distribution system designs and construction drawings;
- Strong understanding of utility infrastructure, pole line construction, and underground electrical installations;
- Electrical Safety Awareness training from the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) or equivalent;
- Valid driver’s license and experience working in both on-road and off-road environments;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Detail-oriented with strong technical report writing skills;
- Excellent communication skills for reporting and client interactions;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, digital inspection tools, and data management software.
